This sticky rice roll stuffed with vegan egg, chili oil, vegan pork floss and youtiao is a vegan version of the traditional Taiwanese breakfast staple.

Fan Tuan was brought to Taiwan by Chinese refugees around 1940s – and overtime, it became a deep rooted into the Taiwanese breakfast culture – the classic roll would be made of purple sticky rice, stuffed with pork floss, youtiao (deep fried bread) and pickled mustard greens.

I’ve also seen a lot of versions with egg so in this vegan version, we will be adding vegan egg, chili oil crisp, scallions, vegan pork floss and youtiao.

The only place I can get a vegan Fan Tuan in Singapore is at QQ rice – I personally love the variety of filling there and dare I say it’s the only but best rice roll I’ve ever tasted.
